Forms come and go, what seemed invincible, crumbles. - Czeslaw Milosz

My paintings are made by a slow accumulation of materials. The canvas and paper are burned, stained, and often buried in the ground for periods of time. I relate this process to the continual excavation and construction of built environments, the notion of architecture as identity. More specifically, elements of vernacular architecture such as incremental building have been influencing my recent work. From torch burns on paper to dirt, bitumen, and wine stains on canvas, I build up layers on asymmetrical sections of canvas. These sections of unstretched canvas are nailed directly to the wall, overlapping in some areas and leaving the wall exposed in others.
